Patchwork Math Using Quilting Design Components

By Lynn Wilder for Sew'n Wild Oaks

The purpose of this guide is to be a handy reference manual to use while you are quilting. How many times did you want to make a half square triangle a particular size, then have to remember the formula, do I add 7/8" or is it 1 1/4".

This manual contains the formulas and piecing techniques for a dozen of the most common quilting components used in block construction. You will begin looking at complex blocks in a different way once you become familiar with the quilting match and the design components. You will see that most blocks are comprised of components made with either squares or rectangles.

The quilting component can alos be used in sashings and borders once you learn how to resize them. Be creative and have fun with the process.
