Chubby Charmer Tote Bag

Big, bold, and impossible to miss — this oversized tote is made for people who refuse to leave anything behind. Roomy enough for beach days, farmers markets, grocery runs, and everything in between, it’s the bag that does it all without taking itself too seriously. Toss it over your shoulder and go.
This is a fairly quick project and many students will leave with a completed bag.
Supplies:
- Machine
- thread for your project, scissors
- rotary cutter
- seam ripper
- wonder clips
- Chubby Charmer pattern by Penny Sturges
- 48 five-inch squares
- 1.5 yards of lining fabric
- 2.75 yards of batting (I love Soft and Stable but cotton batting works if you like a softer bag-we also sell the stabilizer on a roll and 1 yard is enough)
All supplies are available in store and at our online shop.
Note: The back of the pattern calls for 2 ¾ yards of stabilizer with the idea that makers would want to line the exterior of the bag as well as the lining. It is NOT necessary to line the lining and you will need just one yard of foam stabilizer for the exterior. If you want to use cotton batting instead of foam, you might want to line both interior and exterior, but I recommend foam as the stabilizer for this bag. The interior pocket is also supposed to be lined. I will bring the stabilizer for that.
As we will be quilting the bag prior to construction, please bring a thread that coordinates with your exterior fabric as well as the walking foot for your machine.
