Textile Basics

Join Erin as she teaches you all about textile fibers and construction, and learn how to choose the right fabric for any project.

Is silk and satin the same thing?  What makes my fabric stretchy?  Is rayon a natural fiber?  Answers to these questions and more as we cover the world of textiles beyond our cherished quilting cotton.  This class is suitable for anyone with an interest in textiles.  The information is also useful for shopping for ready-to-wear clothing.  Students will be provided with fabric samples to label and use as a resource when shopping for new fabric. Material fee is included in price of class.

This is a lecture style class, so no sewing machines or tools will be needed.  Just bring yourself (and maybe a friend?) and a notebook and pen.

Instructor Bio: Erin has been sewing since childhood, but it wasn't until she attended The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) and graduated with a degree in Fashion Design that she really understood sewing and garment construction. Lately, Erin has been working towards a fully home sewn wardrobe. She hopes to motivate and empower other people to make their own clothes and to accept their wonderful bodies as they are today.
