Foundations of Sewing

It's time to learn to sew!  Sewing, or, the act of joining something with stitches, has been considered somewhat of a lost art in recent decades.  Less and less people are passing down their sewing knowledge to the next generation, as it is no longer a necessity in daily life.  However, the popularity of sewing has been making a resurgence in the past few years, as more and more people yearn to create something useful out of a piece of fabric and some thread.  If you are one of those people, then the first step is signing up for this class!

You will learn how to: wind a bobbin, thread a machine, change a machine needle, use pins, begin and end a seam, sew a straight seam using seam allowance, sew basic machine stitches, unpick a seam, finish seams, press seams, the importance of taking breaks and stretching, read a pattern, use a rotary cutter with acrylic ruler and cutting mat to cut fabric, and make a cloth napkin.

Ages 16 and up.
